Yvonne Flavin place setting at the top table

The Bride

Myself and Lorraine were guests at our niece, Yvonne Byrne’s wedding last Friday. Apart from the miserable weather it was a fantastic day and gave us the opportunity to try out Lorraine’s new glass – 100mm f2.8L Macro. Wow! What an awesome lens! We brought both our cameras, the 50mm f1.4 and no flashes (apart from the pop up on the 40D). The University Church on Stephen’s Green is quite dark but we managed to get a few shots at 1600 ISO. The 100mm has the new hybrid IS so we were hand-holding at 1/15th without any great difficulty.

Around the corner then to the reception in the Conrad Hotel on Earlsfort Terrace. Lovely hotel, lovely staff and lovely food – what more could you want? I grabbed this shot at the top table before the guests came into the ballroom. It’s Yvonne’s place setting (now with her new name) taken at 1/50th, f2.8 and ISO1600. Not bad, even if I say so myself!

It was great to be able to take lots of candid shots, especially without any intrusive flash. I have to give big respect to the official tog David Maury. He was brilliant! He worked from 10.00 am that morning until at least midnight and never stopped shooting. I spoke to him after the church and at that stage he had over 900 shots in the bag so he must have at least doubled that by the end of the night.
